Pacific Crest Trail - June 26-28, 2000

Page 4 - The First Campsite

The tedious hike through Raymond Meadows finally ended with a short drop to Eagle Creek. A nice campsite was set up, complete with fire ring. We set up the tent in case it started raining heavy, but it didn't. We decided to make dinner...and found out Justin's stove didn't work. They'd sold him the wrong fuel bottles and they wouldn't attach to his stove. First equipment failure on the first night...not good. Fortunately, we still had my stove.

After raising our packs as high in the air as we could to keep the bears away, we went to bed. I was overcome with my usual nausea from allergies and spent about an hour and a half of the first night sitting upright in the tent trying not to puke. Plus, I had some nice blisters going on my heels. Doubt began to set in.

But the morning brought beautiful weather and a renewed spirit. The view was cool...

and there was nice log to sit on at the campsite.

We had some breakfast, repacked our stuff, and headed on down the trail...
